Goldeneye is a bad game. It's a slogfest filled with braindead enemies, completely empty and sterile levels, insanely low resolution turbo blurry textures with very little actual texture variety, a dumb aiming system (yo dawg we heard you like aiming so we put a crosshair button on your controller so you can aim while you aim), a framerate that turns the game into a slideshow whenever anything is happening onscreen, literal special needs tier NPC AI that will happily walk directly into a stream of bullets causing you to fail the mission, and as the poop nugget cherry on the top of this turd sundae you have to play the entire game with the most retarded fucking controller ever invented.

The only positives are the soundtrack (surprisingly good for a cartridge game) and the multiplayer led to a lot of fun nights with bros during sleepovers when we were kids (the shit controller didn't matter in deathmatch because everyone had to suffer through using it together).

People only venerate it because it was their first FPS or they heard a youtuber talk about how great it was (who only thinks its great because it was their first FPS). Fuck you, I'm right, and deep down inside you know it.

If you go by raw CPU horsepower Nintendo has (with one potential exception) never had the most powerful console in any console generation, and most of the time they have actually had the weakest console in each generation. They make their sales off of first party software, not high fidelity graphical capability. They know people will buy anything they release since it will be the only place to play Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Pokemon/etc. Because they don't focus on raw system power they can use cheaper components, which makes them the only manufacturer to consistently sell their consoles at a profit from launch, instead of having each new system be a loss leader with profits subsidized by software sales until manufacturing costs can be lowered partway through the generation with manufacturing changes (as in new models, like the PSOne and PS2/Xbox 360 Slim, as examples).

This is the potential exception, unless you consider the Dreamcast to be 'in between' the 5th and 6th generations (it released less than two years after the N64 did and had far more multiplats with the PS1 and N64 than it did with the PS2/GC/Xbox), in which case it is slower than the Dreamcast. If not this is the only console generation where Nintendo's entry has had a faster CPU than its competitors.

It's completely different from what their competitors do, but it has worked out for them each time.

I posted here because I thought maybe someone else here has had to deal with this.. Came home to find dog diarrhea all over my bedroom with the bulk of it being on my N64.

Any advice on how to clean this? Or direction to a better place to ask??
