I think if you disband your first mind worm unit, you can prevent the death message, and you can disband even if it has already moved. I imagine it as protectively telling your talent to just GET OUT OF THERE.

Only good human factions from the expansion are Drones and Consciousness, and the aliens don't fit the theme of ideological conflict, but are alright just as an enemy faction. I think Alien Crossfire is worth playing over vanilla, largely because of things like the sea base improvements (FOUR FOOD A TILE, EARLY/MID GAME) and the Cloudbase Academy. I would definitely play the first time through with base factions only, though.
Are Soporific Gas Pods broken? They sound a bit powerful.
