I'm back bros. This is actually a ROM hack of Castlevania 3 for the NES believe it or not.
>Can it run on real NES hardware? Is this a 1 to 1 8bit SOTN demake?
Yes, this is not a mockup. Currently collision, enemy and candle data exist and are being expanded as a callback to SOTN within the 'main hall' section of the original CV3. No, this is not a remake of SOTN, classicvania controls and level progression are still hard coded into CV3.
>Then what is this sorcery?
To be brief as hell, when CV3 was translated to the US it changed chips from the Famicom exclusive VRC6 to the NES MMC5 chip. Many know this change as a loss of two extra audio channels, making the NTSC generally the worse version. However, what no one realized is that the MMC5 came packaged with a metric fuck ton of extra bank data that went completely unused when the game was ported to the US. Technically I can access and run those blank banks, expanding the ROM data to almost double the amount of on-screen detail.

Generally, I keep almost everything I do secret. Mostly to keep hype low, prevent DMCA takedowns and keep people from copy pasting assets into their own projects. (Without the proper ASM addresses, nonnative banks will crash the game). So I drop whenever I can.

If you guy's need some proof, I can take a snapshot of the open lid NES with SD cart inserted and the wires going directly into my CRT. Since I'm not at home right now have a WIP photo of the abandoned mines section.

Thanks for the support, it's nice to see people interested.
