No... Game development has always been about making what they think will sell well enough to keep the company afloat long enough to make the next one.

Sometimes they think they have a hit and it tanks, other times they think it's the end and it's really just the beginning.

I remember playing Final Fantasy, getting to the earth cave after what seemed like months and then the game froze and deleted my save. Didn't touch it for years and finally started a new game. Get to the tower right at the end and the exact same thing happens again.

And that's why I never beat FFI on NES.

I swear the box was part of the reason I got this game. I still feel like the box oversells it.
