I'm not arguing against that for the sake of opinion. If you really wanted to be thick about it, you could classify any specific genre as a niche genre.

The fact is that RTS is a widespread genre and is played on multiple platforms by hundreds of thousands. RTS is as much a niche genre as fighting, beatemups, and FPS.

Gaming as a whole is a niche hobby. One that is shared by millions of people.
