No, not really. You can play these games now, they are all crap, with the exception of YU-NO. Snatcher has quality writing not because it is consistent or believable, but because is entertaining. The same way that metal gear is. Most characters in the game have strong personalities, compared to the blank slate of the average point and click/visual novel. The world crafting is more than above average, maybe not deus ex tier, but more approachable. And the game is not as linear as your average visual novel. Music itself is very good too. "There's nothing particularly special about it" is dishonest when the quality itself is particularly special, which is why we get constant threads about snatcher, and none for other contemporaries point and click/visual novels. Yes, because is wacky and features the usual Kojima junk people think that must make the game bad, but the game is supposed to be fun and entertaining, not a book on anthropology. That it steals from american movies is irrelevant, most videogames stole from D&D and Tolkien, in fact maybe that's what makes the game good.

Haters say the story is worse than your average anime, but then again, haters will say the average anime is inferior to the average tv show, and at the same time that they are inferior to the average movie, and movies are inferior to the average book, and books are worse than plays, and plays are worse than rituals, and rituals worse than epiphany, and epiphany worse than being uncreated.
