It's literally not cheating. The original game had support for it. Even Wolf3D was designed with a mouse in mind.
Don't know where this outright lie came from or why it holds so much traction with zoomers who've never played Doom.
You could say that using vertical look is cheating, but just using the mouse in its default state (horizontal look only) is in no way cheating.
