Psylocke and Colossus is used the most iirc because of rushdowns, but honestly I haven't played the first game against a human opponent since the Kaillera days.
But the biggest fuck you helper is Lady Devilot. Using her to break the opponents guard can be so fucking annoying.

Most people don't give a shit about helpers since they use golden war machine or red venom and do rushdown style play where if they touch you once you are fucked. MvC1 unfortunately still has a lot of infinite combos, they are just not as stupid as in MvC2 (not counting Gambits two hit air juggle).

Too true, SF2 really felt like they took a step in the wrong direction.
What I would have really liked was for them to refine the combat system and make your allies have more substance. Like, doing sidequests for them, thus enabling them to be more useful in battle.

The absolute best part about Shining force for me is the amount of characters you're allowed to recruit AND bring into battle with you. I feel if they were to hone in on THAT aspect of the game, and allow for different builds for each character you recruit, that it would be so much more enjoyable and replayable. Perhaps depending on how you interact with your allies you'll be able to unlock a different class for them to level up to... For instance, if you treat your princess ally more brashly than with the utmost of respect (y'know, what royalty usually asks for) she'll upgrade to a princess-warrior type that's capable of dealing more damage, rather than a queen that's capable of providing more buffs.

This way there's no real WRONG way of interacting with your allies in the event of these heart-to-hearts... It's more along the lines of what you'd think would be more useful on that playthrough, once you become more familiar with what's going on in-game.

Well that's whats been on my mind. I'll probably make my own trpg incoperating this. probably do my best to make the game go as fast as it can too... because the worse part of shining force is definitely all the waiting.
