That looks really damn good.
I believe some of them were also oil paints on canvas, as well as some being drawn with pencil. They really went all out with trying different artistic approaches to create the graphics.

Wonder if Adrian kept all the drawings and paintings he did?
Greg Punchatz kept the latex molds he made for the posable models, and I think that's really cool.

The 'skinface' texture was probably one of the textures which Adrian Carmack drew by hand with pen on paper, then scanned in and post processed, so chances are that it may exist somewhere (or has once existed somewhere) in a larger resolution, or at least as the original drawing.

John Romero released a whole shitload of old developmental alpha and beta content for Doom and Doom 2 some years ago, and aside from being just neat to look at and being amazing resources for modders (I've used it quite a lot), there's also a lot of partial versions of textures and other graphics as they were progressed into their final forms, so you can actually see the sausage being made, so to speak.

Pic related is the 'snake' texture, this was drawn on paper and scanned in.

It's hand drawn actually, probably by Adrian.
