Hot take: Blood Omen 2 isn't that bad of a game.

Blood Omen 2 is most hated Legacy of Kain game but I don't think it's that bad. It's very different from the rest of the series but still an enjoyable game. I really like the gameplay and overall design of the game. I will admit that most of my enjoyment is nostalgia.

And I know Blood Omen 2 gets a bad rep but I find it criminally underrated. Yes, it's more action-oriented than the other games but that doesn't make it a bad game. If you approach it as an unrelated spin-off it's very enjoyable. It's sort of like Legacy of Kain's Silent Hill 4.
I think Blood Omen 2 is one of the few games which really lets you play as the "bad guy". Fucking shit up as Kain was fantastic. The combat was simple but I felt the different weapons and abilities helped keep it entertaining. Weapons having different execution moves was really cool. One thing I really liked was how you could use the jump ability to lock on to enemies from a far. It's also great how malicious Kain is, like you can grab enemies by the throat and kick them while they're down. Kain even laughs sometimes when you do it. The blood drinking animation is the best in the series and it was really cool that the game focuses the camera angle on you during it. Also the fact that drinking blood makes Kain stronger actually encourages the player to kill humans for their blood. The game literally encourages you to murder innocents lol.
I really liked the design of Blood Omen 2. It's like gothic fantasy on steroids. Kain's costumes were great and I just really loved the overall design of Kain. How he moves, how he stands in combat with claws out, how he glides through the air like an evil phantom. The level design was spot on as well, going from from middle-ages slums to canyons to alien fortresses. Using Kain's different abilities to traverse the environment was fun and the levels all had great atmosphere.
My only gripe with the game was an abundance of cutscenes, some of them very long. While I really enjoyed the game the cutscenes did not age well and felt very clunky to watch. Also it has the worst writing out of the LoK games but let's be honest, you're not playing BO2 for the writing.
