I personally think he was the betrayer, and as cliche as the "endless journey of penitence" is,, I still like it. It does say he "wore the crown of the Night Sentinels," and in the prologue we see the Sentinels basically saying "May we never need you again." Sounds a bit contemptuous. Besides, if he's looking for "vengeance against the Dark Lords who had wronged him," how can he be doing so if we don;t know what he was "wronged" with? I'd say it was when he was bamboozled into letting them turn his dead son into the new Icon of Sin, thus monkey pawing the shit out of him. We don;t see any other accounts of someone being "wronged"

Unless he's still mad about Daisy, and that's how he's been "wronged," in which case, holy shit, you assholes messed with the wrong pet rabbit.
