This game is unplayable. The precise actions required and specific timing of everything is beyond retarded. Is the sequel any better or is it literally just more of the same?

Ok, everyone here I'm sure has played all the normal recommendations.

Darkseed, Darkseed 2, Harvester, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Clock Tower, etc.

What are some examples of more obscure psychological horror point and click games similar to the above mentioned games that aren't constantly mentioned/recommended?

Weird AF and dripping with atmosphere. Pain in the ass to play though, I wouldn't normally recommend this but consider just watching a full playthrough on youtube instead.

What are some retrogames with that Sam's Club aesthetic?

NOBODY CARES NOW SUCK MY WILLY, BOY

I doubt HR Giger comes under Lovecraftian but there certainly is a surreal and otherworldly quality to his work.

Post some stories of your experiences playing old school horror games when they came out.

>I remember when Phantasmagoria came out and my older brother was playing it in his room late at night. I was watching him play when my mom opened the door really quickly and asked us something and we started screaming lol.

Not strictly Lovecraftian or anything, but there's Dark Seed, an interesting point and click adventure game which was officially licensed by H.R Giger himself to use his artworks as assets for the game, this was under the condition that the game would display in 256 colors and in 640x350 high resolution, to adequately display his artwork (yet the actual gameplay and environments only ever take up about 40% of the screen, the bottom half being used to display text, and the rest of the onscreen graphics being an elaborately detailed frame)

They spent months scanning and digitizing his art, then another good few months recoloring it as it initially ended up looking too gray and washed out. The main character uses the name and likeness of the project lead (or was it head artist?), Mike Dawson, who they digitized and put in the game.

It's a very interesting game, especially visually, but on the conceptual level, and on the gameplay level, it kind of just doesn't work very well.
The story and setting is kind of like an afterthought, like they had made these environments but not really thought about exactly what they would be used for, and then just added some very loosely held together by a vague story, and nonsense gameplay.

This game came out in 92', there were no online strategy guides, and the logic in the game never much holds up that well, solutions to puzzles are esoteric, and you only have three days of gameplay, events and actions only being correct on certain days, you have to basically replay the game over and over and figure things out by attrition or wild chance, and then what order it goes in, it's very King's Quest tier like that, and again, this was in 92, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis was the number one specimencof point and click adventures.

It's worth checking out gameplay footage of the game, because really it's very unique, but Dark Seed II fixes most of the inherent problems, actually working much better as an adventure game.

Neat ideas and world with shit execution. I admit though, I like the sequel in a "so bad it's good" type of way
