The beginning of Stage 3 is indeed really annoying sometimes. If you die and have no hearts/subweapons, you really have to take it slow at the start of the stage. Everything after that is fine though, easy even without subweapons.
Stage 5, that fucking weird Pillar midboss, good luck on that on Expert Difficulty if you're using John Morris and died so you have no hearts/subweapons. That happened to me on my last playthrough on Expert as John.
