/vr/ - Retro Games

I've always heard that the N64 Expansion Pak is needed for games like DK64, MM, Perfect Dark, etc. Ive also heard that it isnt really needed for most of the games and only creates problems. I have a 64 and most of the time my N64 freezes and the Expansion Pak gets really hot. Should I remove my Expansion Pak and only put it back in for games that need it or it directly improves the framerate? What do you guys do with yours?

I can't think of a single console add-on that wasn't a failure, were there any successes? Pic related was just stupid, there was what, 2 games that required it?
