one only need fetch the key to exit so about 3/4 of the map can be ignored. however, secret seems essential for blue armour (damage reduction) and health recharge. rockets also nice to have for clearing path. skipped BFG as i just dodge the cyberdemon - it perhaps would be a more effective path-clearer but rockets seemed sufficient.

many obstacles (torches, hanging corpses) are a hindrance. could save several more seconds by grinding (i read recently some top speedrunners might make 5000+ attempts on a single map! my upper limit before boredom is about a 1/100 of that)
