I loved the one I had, played a lot of Saturn and Dreamcast on it. Sadly, due to CRT bulk, I had to throw it out when I got my two FW-900s. I really wish I had the room to save it, but moves happen when these slumlords demand even more for rent.

Back then I used JP21 and VGA. I did not have any means to hook up component to my monitor. Component did not matter to me since I had quit video games around the time the Dreamcast died. It was only later did I get a PS2 and Gamecube that I would use component, since all I did with those systems was play GBA games and watch movies.

It was mid-90s to relatively recently. This was around 2005/2006 but it was my setup that I used for SNES/SFC/PCE/Saturn/Dreamcast play. The XRGB2 was the key device for connecting the consoles to the monitor which was 31kHz opposed to the 15kHz the consoles output, and the device was able to accept JP21 cables.

I couldn't figure out why people liked 3D being blurry. It all started around GL Quake and 2D elements I noticed were not sharp. I was used to pixel art being sharp, since I plugged the MD/SFC/SS into RGB along with the DC being VGA. The sharp pixel look was what I am used to from the late 90s.

Guess I am that rare console owner which used RGB cables and I had hidden knowledge for decades before 2014. See, in my day I was used to arcade games which did output to RGB monitors. The dithering patterns I just saw as a shading method, like classical art stippling/hatching/cross-hatching. In manga they use screentones to achieve some texture in the shading which I associated with the dithering patters seen in games like Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Comic artists of the day used a lot of hatching in their linework and they did not choose to smudge them, so my preferences just are in line with having a clear image. In the end, it is a preference, but I just want to dispel the notion that RGB cables for the Playstation was not a recent development but there from the start.

Okay, I decided to go ahead and get that USB to TTL cable you spoke of to have ready. I'll still take the next couple weeks to research this. Since it seems like everyone says this is a well known issue, I had no clue. I was disappointed back then when this FW900 which I used as primary could not match the Viewsonic G90f I had prior.

Is that this little tab on the right at the back?

I would like to give it a through cleaning if I had the guts to remove the frame. The high amount of electricity in a CRT does put the scare in me though. So I don't know if I can just compressed air canister the boards.

Not really. I was trying out the OSSC there, but normally the desk is more clear. Lately it is cluttered due to the depression that my monitor is broken which will hopefully be fixed soon.

I still use the same keyboard, but I miss those two old machines I had. Still a big regret.

I'm getting close to building my "time machine" of the past. Ball mice are one thing that I do not want to go back to. What modern mouse would you recommend I use to convert from USB to PS/2?

Back in the day I used a XRGB2 to play my consoles since I only had CRT monitors. It line doubles to 31kHz, unlike the framemeister which processes the image. These days you can use the OSSC which does the same thing.

I still use the same keyboard to this day. I like the two halves angled, it feels nice to me. Also it is because, I cannot afford that sweet Corsair K70 with the Cherry MX Blue switches.

Nice! Yeah, I had the original Sound Blaster from Creative, for my original 286-12MHz but being poor meant I had to keep transplanting it when my uncle (different one from hoarder) gave me his 386DX-40MHz to the 486DX4-100 I eventually had. However, I had always saw the ads to the Pro and 16. AWE and 32? Until my Win2k build (I went from Win3.0, to 3.1, to 3.11 and only used my cousin's Pentium for my Windows 95 experiences, skipped 98 and went straight to 2000), I finally got a Sound Blaster Live! and I regret tossing that out too now (the blue computer). The goodwill around me has nothing for old computers, they just get tossed.

N-no ... ... ... yes. It was a different time, before the ESRB. I even remembered buying Leisure Suit Larry 6 game from Babbages (because 5 was my first Sierra point & click game, but I bootlegged that from friends and I never owned it) and the store clerks had no issue with it. In fact, I remember comics, cartoons, and videogame magazines had the anime nudity in it and no one batted an eye at the kid reading/watching them.

I liked them enough and thought they were amusing. They also came with various desktop mascots (widgets) which were amusing to me as well. People sell lots of stuff, here in my country at odd hours on fringe channels they have infomercials for all sorts of stuff.

I found an old image, but I had already had the XRGB2 for about 6 years before this, but the point is that I've been used to the sharp pixel look for my consoles and computers. As being poor meant I only had a CRT monitor and no TV to play games on, so for me authentic SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Playstation, DOS, etc. was with sharp crisp pixels. Also old Youtube to date image, mind my mess as I live in filth.

I think the look of games is just whatever one prefers. I see dithering sort of like crosshatching/hatching/stippling in terms of shading (sort of like the portraits on US paper currency), so even with the sharpness, I can use my imagination just fine (like how my mind rounds out intended curves, but hate the Eagle/2xSAI/whatever interpretations in visual filters). Authentic to me is just preference for visuals but accurate (as in no obvious glitching of the game). As I remembered my NES was RF, and I sure don't like that signal for it now, but I do prefer NES stretched just a bit on the CRT TV, so I'd like sharp pixels but slightly adjusted to 4:3 (but I also remember the solid colour bar on the left); so I am always tweaking an emulator look to suit my preferences.

I awkwardly worded my answer, for BNC, I meant 1 cable for each signal, as in one for red, one for blue, etc. The Genesis outputs very beautiful RGB though by default without mods, I even remembered an early EGM and Mega Play article about RGB back in its day.
