I'm not suprised that sonic runs so well on snes, considering snes has the more efficient processor (mhz don't count, the snes can do a whole lot more work at a lower clock speed). Snes was a better built console than the genesis with a more efficient graphics chip. Sonic pushed the genesis to its limits, while the snes isnt even breaking a sweat :3 Anyways, snes was built to do the math sonic has to do in a single frame, while the genesis wasnt, they had to bruteforce their way to get the game to do many multiplications at once on the old motorola 68000. Snes has a builtin multiplier and divider on its ppu, which are faster than the genesis's way of simulated multiplication using addition. Snes also had hdma, and megadrive didnt. It's only given that the old genesis cant compete with the snes under the hands of good programmers. All snes games slowed down back then either due to slowrom, or the programmers sloppily porting over their code that was originally designed for the motorolla 68000 over to the snes cpu. On the other hand, good luck getting super turrican 2 running on the genesis, because the system cant produce any of those graphical effects! Even the snes can do better at some graphical effects than even the sega saturn cant pull off!

Snes is the most powerful 2d console of its time with 2d background scaling via mode 7 and multiple backgrould layers with parallax, and 64x64 sprites with 16 colors each from a pallette of 15-bit rgb! It completeley blows away genesis in every aspect, even cpu, becasue the snes cpu is proven to get the same performance as the genesis cpu due to the snes cpu being more efficient on cycles. The reason so many games have slowdown was because launch titles were using underclocked cpu speed and significantly impacted performance, and later games that use full clock speed just suffered from shitty porting or coding. Suck it sega! COPE HARDER SEGGA NIGGAS!

Even the shitty little blue dipshit runs fluidly on snes now, so there is no reason left to tell us otherwise.

29 years later, with all of the optimisations possible, the first level of sonic is now running on the SNES. It doesn't have a consistent framerate and looks a bit blurry at times, but other than that it's pretty awesome!
