I think you've done good, OP! I wouldn't get a foldable myself just yet since they're still very expensive and not as durable, though they've been getting better and having a tablet and a smartphone on the same device is awesome. I think that a near 1:1 or 4:3 aspect ration, and a telescopic controller, with good hardware that can run decent shaders, seems like a very good time. I hope I can get a foldable eventually to do this sort of setup myself, at least to experiment.

On another note, why is this thread so negative? OP's excited about a device he got and how it's design can be used for a fun retro experience, but many seem to be taking this as a sin I guess.

Why? I know it's not the best one for most, but I don't see how it's the worst either... you get this big screen in a good aspect ratio, often of a high quality depending on your smartphone or tablet, and a wide range or controllers to choose from, a few symmetrical, most asymmetrical, some small and others big, if one thing breaks you still have the other one, unlike a dedicated handheld does.

It's not perfect, but has a ton of qualities, and if you're on Android, you have RetroArch and a ton of emulators to use even for higher end consoles like PS2 and Game Cube that run decent enough.

I know it's expensive... but I think these foldable smartphones that are coming out over the years are pretty decent options for emulation, maybe with a telescopic controller. I know a tablet isn't too different in theory, but one fun thing about these foldables is that when using their internal display, the aspect ratio is pretty much 4:3 in all of them, or at least close to 4:3 I guess, it works.

I obviously wouldn't get an expensive foldable if this is my only use for it, but if you were going to get one anyways... then yes, this is awesome in a lot of ways, a 6' 4:3 screen on a handheld is nice.

Indeed, it's like the perfect all in one device if you don't need any software exclusive to the desktop OS, or features not available in mobile OS like iPadOS and Android. If you use it as it is, you get a device perfect for consuming media, rotate it and you get a Kindle to read books or comic books/manga. Wait, you want a laptop? All you have to do is attach a keyboard to it. Oh, you want a Nintendo Switch? Well, use a telescopic controller for it! A desktop? All you need is your monitor and keyboard, with an HDMI cable and adapter. It replaces almost anything you need.

All that's left is for it to fit into your pocket like a smartphone so you can literally have this single device for everything, foldable smartphones are my hope when it comes to that, hopefully we'll get to the point where their screens aren't so unreliable anymore, and if their price drops too.
