In that case I think you'll really like the Lunar games and it would be worthwhile seeking out the Sega CD versions if possible. They really feel like they were labors of love.

The series has some fantastic music as well.

Also if you like unique experiences I re-recommend Breath of Fire IV. The others are good too, but IV really shines and has some really great character stuff. You play some sections as the one of the "villains" and it really adds to things as it builds the world and what's going on.

It's a bit slow in the middle, but the pay off is very very worth it. Plus also incredible music.

I asked because I've started it couple of times and didn't love it enough to continue. But if there's some hidden depth or something really interesting I may pick it up again.

I am not a big fan of BoFIII though either so it may be a taste thing.
