I blame the stamper bros trying to pull a fast one on Yamauchi, who was the ultimate greedy bastard.

They sold 49% to Microsoft, Nintendo already owned 49% of Rare. The Stampers owned 2% and their plan was going to have Nintendo buy their 2% stocks at an inflated price, so Nintendo became a majority owner. In their mind, Rare were the only thing that kept the N64 afloat as all third parties went to Sony, and Nintendo weren't going to risk losing a developer with a strong output at a quick pace and impressive technical skill. They never saw Yamauchi selling Nintendo's 49% to Microsoft directly and then buying Retro Studios as a possibility.

And in recent years it seems they've regretted it, seeing how around the 360 era, a good chunk of Rare's staff felt alienated by how MS ran stuff and left, as well the current state of Rare.

I don't care what e-celebs say, I like this cartoon. Too bad the second season's animation was outsourced to China because it looks absolutely putrid, the first season did somewhat resemble the CGI of DKC1.
