To get into high positions in established companies of any kind, it is usually the case that you need to have a long and successful career in the business market. The higher ups are then either older men who worked themselves up over time or rich middle aged men who simply bought the company. It so happens that the older a company brand becomes the more out of touch with the consumer demand they become. The, for this problem specifically hired, market analyzing team only amplifies the whole process, as they have in most cases only raw numbers and data to go after. By chasing and misinterpreting raw data, they further distance themselves to the actual realistic customer demand that they had initially fulfilled. That is usually the case for any product oriented company with a fairly successful early stage growth rate.

My personal approach is to determine in a franchise, when and where the cracking points for passion and quality starts to substantially influence and negatively impact the end products. Then I simply ignore their mere existence in relation to the whole franchise.
