People use this excuse all the time for modern movies, but anyone who's actually seen an old movie knows that it's just an argument to justify your own biases. Cape Fear 1962 and Cape Fear 1991 are different movies, just like X-Com 1994 and XCOM 2012 are different games. They both lack features from the other.

A remake or sequel that's trying to reproduce and improve upon the original is rarely better than the original, movie wise or game wise.

It's just how things are, and how things always will be.
