Enjoying it? Are you sure they buy retro just for that? Most of these people buy these things to show off to peers, and then basically keep them for decoration. It's all done to fit in the current image for beta white millennials of middle income and moderate liberal views. Just like with buying vinyls, coffee, whole foods, you name it. It's just these are the current status symbols for them.
You want a proof? Try to talk about any N64 game with them. You will realize they barely have any idea of what they're talking about.

It's a bit tongue in cheek, but it's really about prestige. People buy a lot of this shit to feel special and show off. Yeah, it's poorfag millennials' prestige, but it's prestige nonetheless.

When a game holds special value to you, or you bought it simply to play it, you don't flash it all the time when you get an opportunity.

This so much. A fb group I'm on is loaded with people like this. They absolutely do not care about the game itself at all, and just buy it because they need to have it for their dank kalekshun. Nobody ever actually talks about playing the fucking things. I even see people will be selling absolute garbage, like a bunch of SNES sports games, (severely overpriced anyways) and people will salivate over them cause "oh man gotta have it for my collection"
I've gone to one of these video game swaps or little trade conventions once out of curiosity. The buyers there were fucked. Pretty much:
