The biggest reason people think it's a tower is because of this. It goes beyond a perspective fuck up. It doesn't make sense at all for a horizontal ship to disintegrate ass first like that.

What messes people up is that you can't see the front of the ship during that fight so it's easy to misunderstand where you're standing. Then right after the thing disintegrates like this.

It's in-game perspective is messy. The disintegration animation is especially confusing.

The perspective of the sprite is off. It doesn't look as parallel to the ground as it should. And you never actually see it move so you don't have any reason to assume you're looking at the ass end of a ship.

It doesn't help that during the boss fight you can't see the ship's bow and it disintegrates like this.
