Golden ages are subjective. But I do personally believe that the 16/32 bit era was the perfect creamy core when it comes to artistic direction in graphical styles. Regardless of whether or not it was just the ceiling of what devs could accomplish at the time, the graphical styles of the era have endured through ps1, gba, ds, to today with indie titles. Growing up playing primarily portable platforms I never really felt like I had a reason to miss it because there was an ocean of great, similar looking games that came after the SNES and genesis.
