Seems pretty neat, but I already have a powerful PC (which I'll be upgrading later this year), so I'd probably just stick with PC emulators myself.

It's not the worst game of all time, hell, I'd even recommend trying it at least once. Just know that the partner AI sucks major ass, and once they're introduced, you're going to have a bad time if you're not playing with the "fan patch"

Not quite sure what the issue may be. I'm running x64 Win10 myself, and WinQuake booted up on the first attempt, without any tweaking. Maybe it has to do with graphics drivers? I'm running an Nvidia GPU.
Used this version of WinQuake, though this seems to be the most common one, so it's probably what you used as well: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/idstuff/quake/wq100
