He was pretty damn cool until you actually got him.

>meet him first as an enemy, can punch you through a wall and toss you around like a rag doll
>Second disc you get him as a party member in his former home, really long and interesting reason for joining up
>Additions only use the axe, and only three of them exist
>Shit M.Def in a game mostly about magic, shit Speed where Speed is king
>Dragoon spirit is the only one that's missable (though they give it to you in the very last part of the game out of pity if you don't have it)
>Doesn't matter, Dragoon is shit thanks to less spells except for the biggest magic multiplier to use Magical ring on and an easily spammable perfect addition that's outclassed early in the game
>Plot is thrown out, barely even mentioned and Kongol just gives up in the end
>The other VA sounds better as a the golden dragoon than Kongol

ITT: characters which are actually pretty cool as characters, but are shit when playing as them

Kongol's pretty much the rolemodel for this.
>badass enemy
>after you beat him a couple times on Disc 1 he rescues you from falling debris and joins the party
>most complex reason why he's in the party, which is really interesting for a man who uses Hulk Speak.
>shows all over why he is more than deserving your party slot

>hits like a truck with high HP but is shit in every other regard
>devs didn't even give him very many additions or spells at all
>Dspirit aquiring is more or less tacked-on, you buy it or get it endgame out of nowhere
