I always kind of imagined that was his way of dealing with the fear and mental trauma of seeing all those dead people + being alone and having to constantly fight for his life from vicious demons. I guess you can either go all PTSD or you can go straight up murdering psychopath to deal with the trauma of it all.

I mean just imagine having a cacodemon or spooky skeleton come at you in real life even if you were a well-trained soldier. Shit would be terrifying yo.

Also berserk packs give him the strength and rage to punch a guy into a pile of gore. Who knows what something like that would do to your body and psyche.

But I'm 100% certain Id didn't think Doomguy's persona through like that.
