The issue with the monkeys was KNOWING that they change position when you roar at them. The game gives no indication that this is possible.

The second roadblock was the giant rocks on level 5, where you have to perform an obscure maneuver that involves a combination of buttons (rolling), that most players only triggered randomly and had no clue how to do it at will.

The third obstacle for progress was what you mentioned, the fucking logs on the waterfall, followed by a boss fight with that fucking ape. I still get angry just remembering, I hated that bastard so much, eating his banana, looking at you with a smug smile, and backhanding you if you got close.

The final roadblock is one that held me back for years, on level 8, you were supposed to let a falling rock destroy the ground to proceed, but for it to work, you had to remain on the same screen as it.
