Well there is Hybrid Heaven in which you punch, kick, and pile drive your opponents into submission. No magic at all, just a few elemental guns scattered in the game but they aren't plentiful.

>separate battle screens though one of the defining features of a jrpg
Doesn't have a separate battle screen, you fight right away in the environment you encounter enemies in.
> jrpgs differe from western style games because you don't build the characters directly though spending points where as jrpgs have much more simple configuration from having classes or jobs.
Not even all WRPG's allow you to spend points. What is one of the most popular WRPG series at the moment? Elder Scrolls. Natural growth, which was seen in JRPG's in 1987. None-the-less there are games that have various other mechanics as well. Also in regards of Hybrid Heaven it is a natural growth based system when developing your character.
>jrpgs have an overworld
Doesn't have an overworld.

Hybrid Heaven is considered a JRPG by anyone who talks about it, yet it doesn't fall under the conventions of being a JRPG that you've listed.

You mean Hybrid Heaven? There were so few games and then so few JRPG's that it isn't hard to find out what most of them were.

I highly suggest Hybrid Heaven for the N64. It has the same growth mechanics as SaGa/Final Fantasy II, the more you use something the better you get at it. Though it does it for all your body parts. Use your right arm a ton? It will gain more strength, get hit in the shins while doing a block? That legs defense can go up.

Its battle system is fun too, though a bit slow. You travel around on a 3D plane and you have a power meter that fills up. Obviously the more it fills up the more damage you'll do on attacks. Then you press the action button and select your attacks. Think of that like Vagrant Story, but unlike Vagrant Story you cannot manually select a body part (you have to pay attention to the spacing between you and your foe along with what move you use. A front high kick point blank will only hit their shins rather than their chest or head.) but you can attack when you want to (so if an enemy is running at you and you decide to attack then they can run straight into an attack unable to stop themselves from connecting).

The way you learn skills is great and has some risk versus reward. You can only learn new attacks if they are performed on you, and you might not always learn them. What can make certain moves risky is if they damage the head like head-butts or pile drivers. Like Vagrant Story it has body location damage but Hybrid Heaven does it much better than Vagrant Story. If a leg goes critical you cannot kick with it and you limp. If your head is critical you are out cold until you come to, and the enemy can stomp on you or do leg locks while you are unconscious.

HYBRID HEAVEN. I'll PILE DRIVE YOU INTO THE GROUND UNTIL YOU LEARN IT.

If I were to select a N64 RPG it would be Hybrid Heaven.
