You can blame Capcom's brand management on that. The scripts suffer from different translators every time and these translators clearly do not follow each other's works at all. Logos are made in Japan, which follow the Rockman typeface... and even then Mega Man is clearly written separately even in the NES games' logos. It's also written with the space in PSOn games' spine, like with Mega Man X5.
It's common to see the name written together because of misconceptions that even the Capcom staff has, but nevertheless it is Mega Man officially simply because that's how it's registered and owned. This is also Capcom's own official stand and all inconsistencies are just shrugged off by their part.
