There was already a FFVII demake on Famicom. This is a romhack of that demake that makes the game much closer to the actual game. There are lots of demakes on Famicom that people actually created with commercial release (in the 3rd world) in mind but the fan community took this one to the next level.

Emulating this on Wii, using my NES controller with it using a Mayflash adapter.

Playing on a CRT Triniton Sony TV to boot.

I actually never played the original and I'm too lazy to burn the 3 discs in CD-R, although I should give my PS1 some love.

It's a rather good demake once properly patched and fixed. And I dig 8-bit Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games.
