Where does one get the general knowledge?

I'm already significantly in the hole with just this stuff here, and was completely unprepared for the cost to even try to learn. With shaky old hands, people on this board still told me to learn, but they all avoid mentioning the high price just to get started as I still have no oscilloscope, tweezers, multimeter, helping hands, fans, magnifying glass/camera, and raw materials like flux/wick/solder. On top of not having a space that has proper ventilation for even practice work, just the money wasted is a sore spot every time I look at what I categorize as a moment of madness with this stuff. I've spent decades looking for someone to RGB mod a NES, repair various computer boards, region mod a Gamecube, swap out capacitors/chips for Xbox/Gamegear, bring CRTs back to life, etc. all to no avail because it is too annoying of work to be done with better options for their skills. I suppose once I win that Mega Millions or Powerball, I can move to a better place and really dedicate myself to trying to learn.

While I do emulate, it is my fear with all the stuff I kept from back then will deteriorate. The information and skills to repair CRTs are already no longer available in my area. Unfortunately, It is costly to even get started on soldering too, since I still have to get/learn a multimeter, helping hands, flux pens, solder wire, wick, etc. already setting me back hundreds. It isn't so simple to find "practice boards" as if $5 is insignificant as that is almost half of my pre-tax hourly earnings, not to mention sales tax from purchases made post-tax. The instructions for the stuff is in Chinese, which is notoriously difficult and useless language designed to keep people out and Google translate is still failing to get even instructions right. I haven't the room either as the only place with ventilation in my studio is the "kitchen" area above the sinks which is not ideal either. Even with a condition that makes it so keeping hands steady difficult, the medications needed are eating into the cost as well. Unfortunately, the time, space, and money needed is too great, and I was fooled into getting this stuff which has not been used yet and I'm willing to give it away to someone that would help fix some of my stuff instead along with whatever they charge for the work and take the loss since I did not realize how much investment is necessary.

but ... I am serious. I've already spent a large chunk of my savings on the few instruments and still don't have enough to get started, nevermind getting the technical knowledge and techniques. People have said my shaky hands is not an issue to do so, but rarely do they ever mention the high cost.

I've been searching for people to help out in restoring my old electronics to no avail. What's worse is the entry price to even get started on learning. I am still missing stuff like tweezers, hands free magnifying glass, helping hands, flux pens, solder, exhaust fan, heat gun, wick, etc. all pretty costly just to get to the practice phase. Not to mention the space it requires to do such work. I was tricked by this board to attempt doing this kind of thing, it is similar to any cost of education these days which is increasing by the minute.

For the last few years, I have been trying to save up enough to get started on learning how to solder. I still lack a multimeter, and I have no idea the differences between watts, volts, and might have an idea about amps, so it may be wasted money. Sadly 11/11 passed by and no one recommended any from China, but Black Friday and Cyber Monday is coming up. What would be a good and inexpensive multimeter to get? What courses are needed to understand the device?

That is a lot of money. I wish I had known, since I've not done any of this before, and the youtube tutorial https://youtu.be/vIT4ra6Mo0s bore me to sleep every time I start watching. I was told this is a decent one from China after a required mod, which is the catch22 as I've not soldered and I cannot use this iron on itself. So I need to get another iron to fix this iron so I can start to learn to do the work. Every non-work day I think I should get started on removing and replacing the Xbox clock capacitor and buy the required equipment but I get tired or the price just puts me off. Everyone here says to learn to do this kind of work, but no one but you ever mention how expensive and cost prohibitive it is. Since you already have an iron, maybe this Ksger one is right for you. I also have a GameGear which will probably need a recapping too, and I am jealous you got that done.

I am hoping once I save up enough, I can get the materials to start learning. Everyone says to practice first, so I am thinking for my first time using this stuff by trying to remove the clock capacitor of the original Xbox. How does a leaked capacitor look like? How could one clean/salvage it if it has leaked? Where is the cheapest place to get a replacement capacitor?

For additional practice, I am thinking of desoldering the CherryMX blues off a Corsair keyboard and changing them to NK Sherbets.
