Yes you can emulate Win31 in DOSbox for example but those little nuances like watching emm386 flash that you have 1024k free or your conventional memory being low is something you couldnt duplicate

This is probably the most authentic DOS system I have. It was the original Dell XPS line from the early 90s.

I installed DOS 5 and Win 3.1 on it from a blank hard drive. and i'll be honest it was pretty fun getting it set up. For times when I needed a ton of drivers and installs, I'd burn a disc on my regular computer and run the disc on the DOS machine and have 700mb of data instantly.

But trust me you dont want 100% authetic "circa April 1990" dos rig. There were too many limitations and non-compliant hardware that getting games to run was a lucky bet. Do what others have said, build/buy a Win 98 system, it's good enough for DOS and Windows games.
