Why does this game only have four powerups? How hard is it to just add some extra ones? And why does Nintendo still give only a few powerups in the new games? How is that acceptable?

>water levels
>autoscrollers
>stay-on-a-fucking-thing-for-3-hours-while-it-slowly-moves-back-and-forth levels
Does anyone actually like this shit? I'm trying to like this game, the physics and cape/Yoshi/spinjump are super fun but the level design is absolute disaster. SMB3 levels were simply better.

Playing this my first time and finding it surprisingly hard, but I also grew up on 3D gaming and never went back to revisit 8/16bit classics until somewhat recently. Anyway, I wanted to try and playthrough without a guide or anything and hopefully find the secret levels and switches on my own. Is there anything on the overworld maps that hint at whether a level leads to a secret level, star road, or switch palace or am I just gonna have to comb every level manually?

This probably didn't need its own thread but I couldn't find an appropriate one to post in so.... Mario general, I guess!

Why didn't it get a true sequel?

Some of the later levels aren't comfy, but 99% of the game is.

Give me interesting suggestions for multiplayer games that are easy to pick up for someone who's never played. (SNES, NES, or Genesis preferred.)

Where you live, which games are more popular? Are there many like-minded people you can still talk to?

Here in Germany I met a surprising amount of people who prefer older games. Most were heavily biased towards Nintendo games though. The most frequent opinion I heard was how the retro pads are much superior to the modern gimmicky accessories.

Why do I hate this game so much? I like all of the NES Mario games, but this one just never did it for me.

Can we talk about this game? I got it on VC after having not played it since the 90s. Boy, there is some serious fuckery in this game I must've forgotten about.

I still love the game, as I'm a huge Mario fan, but the delusion I had of this being one of the top Mario games is gone. It may very well be at the bottom, which isn't saying much seeing as all the mainline Mario games are great.
