You mean the arcade cabinets? Nothing special. Just a bunch of different variants made by different Japanese manufacturers. All of them doing their own thing trying to climb to the top.

In the 1980s, Arcades in Japan during the were considered seedy and dangerous. They had a bad reputation with parents. Criminals, thugs, and yakuza would hang out in some of them while drinking and smoking. Kids still went, but some would get in trouble with their parents.
