There were a bunch of decent Apogee developed/published games.

Death Rally, Alien Carnage, Raptor, Stargunner, Blake Stone, ROTT, Duke Nukem 3d, a bunch of quirky expansions for Duke3d - 1 or maybe 2 of which presumably would be decent, Shadow Warrior, Blood, Paganitzu, Commander Keen 4&5 and Terminal Velocity.

It seems like largely a question of what else in addition to most of those they could secure to top it off. And those happened to be characteristically gamepad friendly games, though some titles, like Raptor, ROTT, and Alen Carnage could obviously benefit from a few extra buttons on top of the basic 4.

So it's not impossible to imagine a competitor to nintendo's cute and friendly little offering.

This would have more of a curiosity-based selling point, people can trivially check what nintendo games were like, even if they didn't know already.
