Do I really need a translation to play this game /vr/? Is it something that I can muddle through with just the pictures and numbers?

There's not much to "counterpoint" when he's pretty much in the wrong anyways, but I'll throw a bone if it makes anything better for what it's worth. In honesty I think the Saturn's library (well, at least its JP library) is pretty good, but I don't think it's any better, nor any worse than other Sega console libraries.

Saw this yesterday and it looks fucking fun.
Thing is though, there's a fan translation of the game, and an official translation that came out in 2012.
Which version do I go for?

I was introduced to Monster World IV earlier today, my brother was showing off his fancy new Sega EverDrive and this was one of the games he showed me.

It looks absolutely wonderful and I want to play it, the version he showed me was a translation patch, but as it turns out this formerly Japan-only release got an official localised release on Virtual Console and XBLA.

So the question is, which version do I go for? The fan translation or the official translation?
I was very surprised to see that an old game would be localised this late!
