I don't go thrifting as much as i used to anymore (mostly due to my work schedule) but a few times a year I have some good finds. Highlights include:
>Sega CD w/ Model 1 Genesis for $15
>Splatterhouse 2 and Shinobi 2 both cib for $4 each
>Tomba 1+2 cib $7 each
>LoZ:Oracle of Ages cib for $10
And a bunch of other various stuff. Now its rarely anything before 6th gen. Maybe some ps1 sports shit but thats it. It's honestly got increasingly tougher in the last 1-2 years, for 2 reasons:
>More competition; now you're competing with potentially hundreds, thousands more people to find this shit so other people are hunting for this stuff just as much as you are if not more

>Thrift stores themselves have caught onto the retro market: 2/3 of the thrift stores in my city put any worthwhile Nintendo/gaming crap in general behind the display case at the front marked at ebay prices or what you pay anywhere else for this crap... $25 for a GCN controller, $15 - $25 for common ass NES games, $25+ for anything that has Zelda/Pokemon on it. There is still stuff left out on the shelves but even then its STILL marked at or above ebay. I went on friday and saw a Sega Phaser for $19.99, Zappers for $15 each, and no worthwhile games outside 6th gen sports. Thrift stores (especially Value Village) do their homework now and it makes even more difficult to find anything.

However, I found Tomba 1+2 there late last year so I still have a shred of hope that I can still find good stuff there. I wish there was a goodwill around here because whenever i went there in my old city i always found something good on the cheap. I still get a laugh at the Salvation Army here that dedicates an entire shelf in the showcase to games - all sports games! Like, can't let anyone steal those valuable sport games that have been sitting here for months!
