You need:
>original rom (readme.txt or site where you download patch should say what rom to use, its usually one with "(U) [!]" in title, but sometimes it requires very specif version
>patch file, at most time its .IPS

Use this tool to patch them:

it should be simple enough to use, but just in case:
>open LunarIPS
>press "apply IPS patch"
>select your IPS file and press open
>select your rom
>rom you selected should be patched now

If its not IPS then google is youre friend.
