I thought DOOM modding only really picked up again the way it has in the past decade, with a relative slump in the mid to late 2000s
It definitely shows the quality of the game at hand (and the quality of its modding tools) that people come back to it after all these years though

I have no issue with crossing Doomguy with cute characters—the juxtaposition between DOOM's reputation and the cuteness being portrayed can be great, and you see it even in non-crossover fanart—as long as it's not overly forced. The problem with both AC and Hazbin is they're both not-at-all subtly forced, with some anons almost spamming it. I hope this shit doesn't end up tainting the view of crossovers in general.

Still fantastic games. Not perfect (there's some really shitty levels) but the gameplay loop, weapon design and enemy design are perfect.
This might sound like a crazy opinion, but I wish there were more games with biaxial aiming like DOOM. You can be so much more precise with aiming in frantic situations when you don't have to worry about the vertical movement of your mouse, and I feel that's part of why DOOM's gameplay loop is so good, and why you can have such complex encounters with dozens of monsters of different types (hundreds of monsters in some slaughterwads).
If you haven't played DOOM, OP, you absolutely should, unmodded (not that there aren't a plethora of interesting gameplay mods but the original experience is the best possible introduction to the game). 1 and 2 if nothing else, and if you like what you played there's always Final DOOM, DOOM64, and the literal hundreds of thousands of custom levels.

I almost replied to a bait post and I apologize for nearly making things worse, /doom/.
What would you say is the EARLIEST must-play level pack in DOOM? That is to say both historically important and still worth playing today?

Thanks anon. I've only played through DOOM on the low pussy difficulties like NTR and want to do a "real" run with the proper difficulty. I think I'll use collected weapons, then, and then try pistol starts when I play through the game again.

>tfw no proper polished Doom mech gameplay mod
Yeah, mechatron exists, but it's old as hell and only supports 4:3 res.
Necrodoom feels good weapons and hud wise, but it doesn't have the stompy hulking feel that mechatron has.

If some bits of both were combined and some extra features were added it would be perfect. Maybe a dash system and shoulder cannon launchers like Titanfall has would be fun in there.
I don't know shit about Doom modding myself, but I'd do it if I could.
