It's mostly art style shit. I don't care for the look of the ground levels.

I also think they shouldn't have added an outline to Mario's sprite, he clashes horribly with everything else in the game, since his sprite and the mushroom, are the only things that have outlines. I think it should have looked something that looks like pic related. Maybe not exactly this, but close enough.
