There's a lot of differences between SA2 and SA2B/its later ports but unlike SA1 they're usually minor and the game doesn't look that different unless you're paying close attention. See this video if you want more info, as far as I remember it pretty much covers everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMauzPcOorQ
For the sake of Chao Garden, on DC you're expected to play on the VMU a lot. You can't name your Chao without it. You can't look at the stats of your Chao without it. Period. The Black Market for DC is also long gone unless you have a DreamPi or what have you
GameCube is the best version because you can infinitely spawn vanilla Chao eggs through the GBA link cable, you can use that to get Jewel Chao too. GBA > VMU because it doesn't require all of your money to pay for the batteries. You can also save your Chao to one of the early GBA Sonic games since they have a permanent Tiny Chao Garden there. You could also use this to trade Chao to another file. Plus you can get a Tails Chao if you have one of the Phantasy Star Online games too.
HD versions cut out the Tiny Chao Garden, Jewel Chao and trading so it's a mixed bag since you still get QoL stuff from SA2B like seeing stats easily plus the new Black Market. PC can fix or enhance a lot of Chao Garden shit but I haven't played it before.
However Dreamcast has the most soulful Chao Gardens, just see the difference between DC and GC

>People over-exaggerate the slight changes on DX, it's still largely the same exact game.
Yeah, pretty much. There's a lot of changes but they aren't a huge deal. Gameplaywise, storywise, etc. it's all the same. The ports mostly just fucked the aesthetics and graphics.
My take on SA1 is this
>half of Sonic's stages are good, half are fine
>every character besides Sonic doesn't justify its own existence
>Knuckles and Gamma come closest, Knuckles is ok but simplistic and Gamma is overly simplistic with zero need to do anything besides button mash unless you're going for all emblems (which isn't worth the trouble in any version)
>Tails, Amy, Big are all worthless besides Tails' Speed Highway being okay
>story is really not complicated enough to deserve the 'multiple perspectives' style, on top of that only Sonic and Knuckles are actually relevant while the rest go on random side adventures
>aesthetically the game (at least the original version) is nice and it has some really nice effects on Dreamcast
>OST is easily one of the best in a franchise known for its great OSTs
Overall I'd give it a 3/10. I can't give it any higher if I don't think 80% of all gameplay doesn't justify its own existence. By that I just mean it doesn't add anything substantial that wasn't already seen in your playthrough of Sonic's story. If the game were Sonic by himself I'd give it a 6 or 7. What it does well it does good but not fantastic and if they just focused on Sonic the game would have been a lot better. I appreciate the ambition but ambition hindered this game rather than helped it.
t. has beaten it like far too many times

It's such an easy move for an insecure autist like you, isn't it?
>call someone a samefag to deflect from the fact that more than one person is clowning on you
>if they argue it, "that proves it!"
>if they post proof, "you obviously faked that"
>if they don't say anything at all, you 'win' by default
Anything to stop those mean mean anons from saying such harsh things as "based". Why are so many people on here pathetic betamales obsessed with 'being right'?

Fuck off and die. Sick of this rhetoric.

>Mario Madness AKA Super Mario Bros. 2 was sold as much through many reputable retailers, sir.
This doesn't mean anything because retailers aren't an official source for information like this, there's no proof they got this from Nintendo or anyone else and didn't just misinterpret the tagline on the box as a subtitle.
>Furthermore because of the confusion stemming from the real SMB2 and Doki Doki Panic, saying "Mario Madness" is the only way to get people to know what you mean immediately. Saying "Super Mario Bros. USA" will NOT help. lol
If you're talking to an American, most of them will assume you're talking about this game if you say "Super Mario Bros. 2" anyway because they don't give a shit about the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2. I literally never, ever see anyone refer to this game as "Mario Madness" outside of /vr/ memes. This is like if you pretended it was better to refer to Banjo-Tooie as "The Bear & Bird Are Back!".
God, I'm getting baited, aren't I

Fuck off. This bait doesn't even work because we basically have the entire front to back of Sonic 2's development cycle already. There isn't anything of note more to see.

Sonic CD on paper sounds awesome
>a classic Sonic game that you're unlikely to have actually played since it was for the Sega CD
>has awesome music, the JP version's OST is easily top five for the franchise
>debut of Amy and Metal Sonic
>cool anime cutscenes
>based around exploration
>involves fucking time travel and what you do in the past will affect the future
See, it all SOUNDS awesome but when you actually play it you realize the level designs are shit and visually it tends to look overdesigned and cluttered. Also going into the past and searching for the robot generator is an annoying and tedious gimmick that bogs down gameplay. I also don't care much for the special stages.
Sonic CD is the kind of game you really want to like but in the end I just don't think it's held up as well as the other classic games.

I hate how Gen 3 made the player more important and gave the story more stakes. Honestly, I hate it.
Gen 1/2
>player is just a kid on an adventure to be the best, like no one ever was, to catch them was your real test to train them was your cause
>villians are realistic gangsters who do things like run casinos, steal Pokemon and sell them on the black market, are generally bad people
>that being said it's not like the world will end or whatever if you run them out of town, they're just common criminals
>legendary Pokemon are both completely optional and have literally no effect on the story, they're legendary creatures who may or may not even exist until you specifically search them out
>story ends with you beating the group of gangsters, whereupon they decide to give up on their evil plots if they're going to be defeated so thoroughly in battle, and you become the champion
Gen 3
>villainous team isn't just common criminals, they're specifically based AROUND legendary pokemon and their powers, tying the legendaries specifically in with the plot
>wear wacky comic book bad guy costumes as opposed to the 'common criminal' look of Team Rocket
>leader has grand plans to use the legendary in a way that will end up destroying the world, and the player has to stop them
>player is basically forced to catch the legendary through the course of the story because your only chance at it is mandatory rather than optional, leading to everyone having the legendary with zero effort expended leading to them feeling like just another Pokemon rather than a beast of nature that you have to follow rumors and track down
It only gets worse after Gen 3, the player character starts becoming 'the chosen one' and all this shit. I mean, I like a lot of things about Gen 5, but the story isn't necessarily one of them, and it's pretty telling that one of them doesn't even end with the Elite Four, it ends with the encounter with the villainous team.

People care about shit like this? Just play games designed for a CRT on a CRT and games designed for modern displays on modern displays.
