QuakeSpasm is a popular one. You'll want to tweak the .ini files to get rid of stuff like the smear filter and what not, and enabling the demo loops, but once set up it'll be good.

Here, use mine, and just scroll through the config.ini quickly to alter anything you want, filtering is off:

Copy these into your id1 subfolder, and whatever subfolder of whatever mod or mappack you want to play, then open the console and type game ad to play Arcane Dimensions. I wish a lot of this stuff could just be defined quickly and easily in the options menu, and that there was just a menu selector for installed mappacks and mods, but once you've got all this down and configured, you're ready to go.

It's pretty fucking good.
Don't care much for the shotguns not being hitscans, but I love the plasma gun, the blood axe, and the new enemies.
It's of course also ridiculously goddamn beautiful.

Fucking hell, the architecture is so cool in every goddamn level. It's like Crucified Dreams if it was made as a single player .wad
