yeah i started with the demo that came on this issue of PC magazine or something.

the demo consisted of a night terror mission. you had a full squad with a mix of armour to no armour, and a mix of laser , rocket , cannon , and ballistic weapons.

the enemies were snakemen and you know whoe else.

looked all over for the game .. ended up finding the game in a target store in Sydney .. came with masters of orion ... many hours were wasted.

i played a decent number of games in high school, but they were primarily shooters, sports games, and RTS. didn't really get into RPGs until i was 22 or so... before then i'd only played FF7 and star ocean.

playing FF6 via an emulator my friend dowloaded for me really opened the door for me to classic RPGs. i quickly delved into a variety of games i'd never played before including the zelda series, metroid series, megaman, the rest of the final fantasies, chrono trigger/cross, earthbound/mother, etc.

there certainly were games i didn't enjoy playing, but i'm really glad for the experience because it really opened my mind to what gaming could be. i understand that emulation gets a lot of flack for not being truly authentic, but for me it felt similar. i was living alone at the time, and when i was free after work i would play whatever game i was involved with at the moment. i felt that the connection i got with those games was authentic, and that i could appreciate the developers, writers, artists, and musicians working within the constraints they had on the NES, SNES, GBA, PS1, etc.
