Well every summer I try to play one, and I don't know which one to pick. It's either gonna he secret of mana or ff6

A lot of people are trolling, but my brother and I tried to play through Secret of Mana a couple of years ago, and we just couldn't do it.

List of games mentioned in this thread that could reasonably be described as overrated and not just based entirely in adolescent contrarianism (including reasoning for why they're not that good):

>Tomb Raider (clunky controls, cheap deaths via annoying leaps of faith)

And that's basically it. All the hipsters posting stuff like Mario 64 or FF7 in a failed attempt to be cool don't seem to realise that they don't have the same kinds of game-hampering flaws that you'd need for them to be truly overrated.

And my edition to the list: Secret of Mana. The combat is incredibly weak and often boils down to just spamming spells. Might as well have just been a turn based RPG instead. And the very worst part by far is babysitting your functionally retarded AI companions. This game has no business showing up in so many Top 10 lists and SNES RPG reccomendations.

What are some good 2 player RPGs (other than Secret of Mana)? Preferably on the NES, SNES, Genesis, or PlayStation?

It was never one I was dying to get but SNES was the last console I got around to building a library for (about 4 years ago). It's just difficult finding the few games left I really do want at a reasonable price. Gotta get what one can while one can still get it, right? So does the rest of /vr think it's a good addition or just another SNES RPG they could take or leave?

Is this game supposed to be Nintendo Hard? I got through Secret of Evermore with little trouble, but this game's kicking my ass in just the first few hours. Do you really need to grind to take out the bosses?

Never got into this game, nor understood why people think it's so good.

Can someone please explain what makes the game so great? Serious question, because I'm willing to give it another try.

Or do you also think the game is overrated?

FFL is a more like a spin off series of Final Fantasy that developed into its own series “Saga”.

The same thing happened with Final Fantasy Adventure. It had moogles and black/white mages, but it was really the first game in the Mana series.

I've tried to get into this game at least a dozen times in my life. I always lose interest. Can't quite put my finger on why.

I found the second one slightly more engaging but still not good enough to keep me interested through the whole game.

This might be an odd opinion, but I feel like Secret of Evermore was much better.

So, despite owning a SNES (and even a NES) back in the day, I never really played any RPGs on it, perhaps because I was young and my English wasn't that great back then and therefore I was scared of games with a ton of dialogue.

Anyway, so far I have:

Illusion of Gaia (didn't like it very much)
Terranigma
Secret of Mana
Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3)
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger

Hey /vr/

I was planning on playing this game with my roommates, because we all liked the sound of a multiplayer RPG. But reading into it, it sounds like you don't get your 2nd party member until some distance into the game, and then the 3rd party member even later.


So my question is, should my roommates just watch me play until they can join in? Or should I just play this on my own until I get to point where they can join, then explain the story to them? Can people who have done this game multiplayer share their experiences?
