Yep, in the MediaKite version which is used for Classic Rebirth. I remember another Anon saying you can unlock another mode or something in which you need them by beating the game but it still kinda sucks and it's why I prefer emulating RE1 instead of playing the Classic Rebirth version like with RE2 and RE3.

It lets you do a 180 extremely quickly. As for the Switch remaster, the only real downside is the lack of dynamic vertex lighting. I remember watching a video of one of the original GC devs explaining why and basically it wasn't laziness from the remaster team but more that the Gamecube architecture allowed to add that effect practically for free performance wise. Aside from the lack of lighting from the beams, the Switch version looks amazing and I say that as a 32yo millenial boomer who played the original on Gamecube 20 years ago
