If this is true then why even ask what the best starting point is? Play in release order, if you can't stand a specific entry try a newer version of it or just skip it.
GBC for 1-2 are best but if you can deal with it SNES 1-2 have a shitty fan translation. Make sure you get the updated version b/c older ones have terrible bugs in the second game that can softlock you.
3 snes + fan-translation, only has one softlock (lady on 2nd floor of portoga house) but otherwise is masterful.
4 ds makes many people upset b/c of the accents. I liked it tho so see for yourself. If you're willing to go through the trouble 4 mobile is 4 ds but with party chat. 4 nes is fine too but u cant control other party members and I find it too boring (maybe theres a hack for that)
5 snes fan translation is bad and shitty. Ps2 is okay and visually interesting. Ds is fine but some accents/dialogue are legitimately disgusting while others are great. Recommend ps2.
6 snes fan translation BLOWS, Ds looks & sounds worse. No good option here honestly, game isnt the best either, still enjoyed it tho
Never played 3ds 7 but everyone says that its great and that og ps1 7 sucks, but I thought it was great so theyre probably just retarded and underage. Long game, if u have a job u might just want to skip, very unique experience all around.
8's fun. Play og and fiddle with emulator for an hour
9's cool but postgames a meme, i really liked the alchemy even if its kinda mindnumbing. Worst quests in vidya history. Get multiplayer working, its fun with a friend.
