LA Confidential was based on a James Ellroy novel, and his novel American Tabloid (which owns btw) is getting an audio drama adaptation. tho American Tabloid is less traditional noir, more political thriller and espionage, but it owns. no clue when its getting released, maybe itll be released Nov 22 to tie into the JFK assassination.
im working on reading the LA Quartet, so far Black Dahlia is awesome. there's two great interrogation scenes back to back.

THPS1 is more experimental
They were learning to make the game
It's got the downhill maps
Maps are weirder in general
There are less obvious lines to skate on and no manuals so you play it differently
There are extra points icons to get mid air instead of gaps
You have to learn the skater's specials like a fighting game special (so you can't just customize to an easy left-right or up-down)
Soundtrack is better and there are videos of the songs
You should play all so start with the first
The perfect combination of inovation, technical prowess, AAA polish, and cultural zeitgeist that'll never happen again
It's older so it's further away from our cursed days and closer to the happy times
Activision gave THPS to cheaper studios and made Neversoft work on plastic guitar toys and milked the fad dry then killed the studio

Giant blocky pixels are ridiculous
"CRT" filters that just blur and add an ugly grid on top of everything are a meme
Either play on a real CRT, or use filters that make it look good on your LCD because you're not getting anything realistic either way
I have been using filters like SuperEagle and Super2xsai since the 90's when I also had the real consoles and CRT TV's to play and all my friends who emulated games also used filters.
