There was a PC game back around '99 or so that was supposed to render the environment using your computer's directory layout. I think it even used pictures in those directories for rendering. This supposedly made everyone's paythrough different.
Does anyone know what game this was?

HL1 had a fuck ton of atmosphere and re-defined how a FPS could tell a story. It had shitty jumping puzzles and a somewhat dated engine, but compared to SiN and Daikatana it was a fucking masterpiece. It also worked right out of the box with 0 tweaking, something I hadn't seen since Quake.
HL2 was pretty good but was the first indication that Valve couldn't do continuity for shit.
Portal 1&2 confirmed this.
